I first read this in 1976 after seeing it second hand in a bookshop in Bournemouth.

It was the great hot summer of 1976, and very memorable.

I’ve read it many times since, and it’s an old friend that from time to time demands a re-read.

Looking it for recently I was distressed to be unable to find my original copy, and was compelled to by a new one from Amazon.

I was surprised and pleased to see it still in print after all these years.
